Ming-Na catches up with David Blue on his Twitch channel on Saturday, October 2. Ming-Na and David worked together on Stargate Universe with Ming-Na as Camile Wray and David as Eli Wallace. The pair reminisce about their Stargate days and fun fact: David was the one who got Ming-Na on Twitter. If you've missed the Live Stream, here are some highlights!
David Blue shared how difficult it was for actors like Ming-Na and Robert Carlyle, who had young children, to be away from their families when filming. Ming-Na, who was only 45 minutes away from home, would fly back and forth between Vancouver and LA while filming Stargate Universe, to be with her family. Ming-Na also shared one of her favorite stories about her daughter, Michaela's visit to the set of Stargate Universe.
From Mulan to June Woo (The Joy Luck Club), to Melinda May (Marvel's Agents of SHIELD) and now Fennec Shand (The Mandalorian), Ming-Na portrayal in these roles played a key role in Asian Representation. Ming-Na shared how the journey was like and how names for roles like Jing-Mei "Deb" Chen (ER) and Melinda May were renamed because she was cast.
Ming-Na was offered the part of Fennec Shand in Star War's The Mandalorian, who later appeared in The Bad Batch, and got her own Star Wars spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett. Blue and Ming-Na talked about how the journey was like and Ming-Na's first experience on the Volume.
We will also be hearing Ming-Na sing for the first time in her first Jukebox Musical - Glitter and Doom, where she will be playing Glitter's Mom. Ming-Na also shared with Blue her insecurities with her singing, and how she's overcoming it now.
Unfortunately, Stargate Universe was cancelled and we never got to see how each character's story would developed. Ming-Na shared how she wished Camile Wray, who was also Ming-Na's first gay character, story would have ended.
Rounding up the chat, Ming-Na shared how she found out about the Book of Boba Fett, in the most "mingaling way" ever. Enjoy!
